In principle, you can stay on Curaçao for 30 days as a tourist. So your return ticket or your onward flight ticket must be booked on the thirtieth day from arrival. Customs will always look into this so make sure you have booked this properly even if you want to apply for an extension of a tourist stay. The Admissions Committee distinguishes between two types of tourist accommodation.
Visa-free countries: If you fall under a country that does not require a visa, you can simply book a ticket to Curaçao and request an extension. You do not have any paperwork in advance for the outward journey.
Visa-requiring countries: There are several countries that require a visa before you can travel to Curaçao. Here you can apply for a visa in your own country and it will be issued for a certain period of time. This depends on the country and you may stay on Curaçao as a tourist for the entire duration of this visa, even if this is longer than 30 days.

Yes! If you want to stay longer than 30 days or the duration of your issued visa as a non-Dutch or American citizen, you have no other option than to submit an application for an extension. Aren't you doing this? Then you are on the island illegally on the 31st day.
It is important to know that an extension of a tourist stay in Curaçao must be submitted between 7 and 5 days before the expiry date of the tourist stay. You cannot therefore submit the application earlier or later. The decision on the application follows quickly so that you know where you stand.
