Working remotely on Curaçao sounds like a great opportunity that you can't pass up. More and more people come to Curaçao for a year or sometimes longer to work remotely.
You keep your own employer in the country where you live and you take a few months off to work for the same employer, but from Curaçao.
It is important that your current employer agrees that you will work abroad.
Is a remote working permit required in Curaçao?
Yes this is mandatory. It is not a work permit because you do not enter the workplace of an employer in Curaçao.
As a Dutch or American you may stay on the island as a tourist for a maximum of 6 months out of 12 months. But are you going to work remotely on Curaçao and are you staying longer than six months? Then you are obliged to request a declaration by operation of law so that you can demonstrate that you can provide for your own living expenses.
The most important thing for this is that you have an employment contract and that you can demonstrate previous wage payments.
For how long is this statement granted by operation of law?
If you apply for a permit for remote working in Curaçao, it will be granted for an indefinite period. This means that your remote assignment can last longer than a few months, but can also be extended.
Please note that as a Dutch citizen you may be abroad for a maximum of eight consecutive months before you have to deregister.
If you have received the declaration by operation of law, you are free to choose later to register in Curaçao. This is because the statement is issued by operation of law for an indefinite period of time and therefore the license to settle permanently on the island. The government assumes that you will continue to work remotely on Curaçao in the meantime.

It is important to know what costs are involved with a permit for income from abroad. These are costs that are not covered by the CuraBon package.
fees: These are the administrative costs charged by the Admissions Committee of Curaçao, only for processing the application. The legal fee for a Declaration of Law based on remote working amounts to 615 ANG (Gulden – currency Curaçao).
Document costs: There are costs associated with obtaining the necessary documents, such as a birth certificate, etc. These costs vary depending on where you obtain the documents.
