The difference between a Work Permit and a Declaration of Law

A special arrangement applies in Curaçao for people with a Dutch or American nationality. They do not need a separate work permit to work and stay on the island. Instead, they must apply for a Declaration of Law (VRW).

With a Declaration of Law you can live and work in Curaçao without having to apply for a separate work permit and/or residence permit. This is due to historical and legal ties between Curaçao, the Netherlands and the United States.

In practice, people often talk about a work permit, but if you have the Dutch or American nationality, we will apply for a Declaration of Law for you.
